A Christian legal organization founded by Senate candidate and former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore (R) shared a video on its Facebook page suggesting that former President Barack Obama is a Muslim, CNN first reported on Wednesday.
The Foundation for Moral Law, which Moore founded in 2002, shared a video in 2015 titled “OBAMA THE MUSLIM, HIS OWN WORDS” featuring various clips of Obama taken out of context to suggest that he practiced Islam.
The video featured Obama praising Islamic civilization and its contributions to the international community, saying that its accomplishments “made the world a better and more beautiful place, have earned the respect of the United States and the world.”
{mosads}Another clip featured Obama speaking at a conference in Cairo in 2009, where he says, “So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed. That experience guides my conviction…” CNN reported that the clip was edited to stop before Obama finishes the sentence: “…that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn’t.”
In the past, Moore has raised questions about whether Obama is a natural-born U.S. citizen. He currently holds the title of president emeritus at the foundation and is running for the Alabama seat abdicated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions when he joined the Trump administration.
The candidate was forced to resign from his position on the Alabama Supreme Court for his enforcement of the state’s previous ban on same-sex marriages after a federal court declared the unions legal nationwide.
Obama is a self-professed Christian who was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. During his childhood, Obama spent several years living in Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country.
The Foundation for Moral Law and Moore’s senatorial campaign did not respond with comments for CNN.
