Trump records video message for hurricane relief concert

President Trump said in a video message released Saturday that America will “come back stronger than ever before” following several recent natural disasters, praising the efforts of all five living former presidents to organize a benefit concert for hurricane victims.

“This wonderful effort reminds us that we truly are one nation under God, all unified by our values and our devotion to one another,” Trump said in the video first reported by the Washington Examiner

“I also want to thank every person, including everyone here tonight, who has contributed to this vital effort,” Trump adds in the video, which is set to be played at the concert Saturday night at Texas A&M University.

Trump expressed his “deep gratitude” to former presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama for heading the effort to organize the One America Appeal concert.

The concert will feature performances by a number of famed country musicians to raise money for communities in Texas, Florida and the Caribbean affected by a series of powerful hurricanes that hit the U.S. over the past few months.

“Now, as we begin to rebuild, some of America’s finest public servants are spearheading the One America Appeal. Through this effort all five living former presidents are playing a tremendous role in helping our fellow citizens recover,” Trump said in the video.

The campaign began in September to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, but soon expanded its reach to Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were struck by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Trump also called attention to the wildfires in California, which have claimed 42 lives so far and razed several communities in the state’s dry central region.

“Together we will recover. We will rebuild. And we will come back stronger and better than ever before. Thank you, God bless you and may God bless the United States of America,” he said.
