Daily Mail columnist and U.K. TV host Piers Morgan says he may have been saved from cancer when a viewer spotted a small mark on his chest during a documentary interview.

An expert on melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, noticed the unusual mark when watching Morgan’s “Serial Killer” documentary series in November. The mark “really bothered” her, prompting her to reach out to the host.

“Piers, at the risk of sounding like a lunatic, I’m just watching your program and there’s a blemish visible on your chest. Have you had it checked,” wrote Melanoma UK founder Gillian Nuttall, according to Daily Mail

Morgan said he immediately went to a dermatologist to have the blemish removed after seeing her message, and the doctor said the mark may have become cancerous over time.

“This week, a top dermatologist took one look and immediately cut it out,” the “Good Morning Britain” host said. “Much further delay, he informed me, and it might well have turned cancerous. Give that lady a gold star.”

Morgan later thanked the cancer expert for her close observation, noting the irony that the mark was noticed while he was interviewing a convicted killer.

“Thanks, Gillian,” he said. “Oh the irony of a serial killer inadvertently helping to save my life. Merry Christmas!”

Nuttall, 52, founded Melanoma UK to raise funds and awareness for people suffering from the skin disease. The group later tweeted that it was “all in a day’s work” and that they were “glad he listened” to Nuttall’s advice.
