FBI weighing charges against passengers who caused plane to turn around: report

The FBI is considering filing criminal charges against two brothers who got on a flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo using a duplicated boarding pass, ultimately causing the plane to turn around midflight, ABC News reported Thursday.

Law enforcement sources told the news outlet that the two brothers were booked on separate flights to Tokyo on separate airlines. The two apparently duplicated the boarding pass for a flight on All Nippon Airways (ANA) and both boarded the plane. 

The brothers reportedly have nearly identical names and are American citizens.

“ANA is researching the situation currently to determine how the passenger boarded the flight,” the airline told ABC News.

The flight crew became aware midflight that a passenger was on board who was not supposed to be, and the airline ordered the plane to return to Los Angeles.

Among the passengers on board were model Chrissy Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend. Teigen began live-tweeting her experience from the sky, and her posts quickly went viral.

“A flying first for me: 4 hours into an 11 hour flight and we are turning around because we have a passenger who isn’t supposed to be on this plane. Why…why do we all gotta go back, I do not know,” she tweeted Tuesday night.

Teigen, who is also a vocal critic of President Trump’s, eventually boarded another flight to Tokyo.
