Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) in a television appearance on Monday poked fun at President Trump’s claim that he is “a very stable genius,” saying no one will call Trump a genius if he doesn’t call himself one.

“If he doesn’t call himself a genius, nobody else will,” Graham said on ABC’s “The View,” provoking laughter from the audience and hosts.

{mosads}Graham praised Trump for his victory in a crowded Republican primary field in 2016 and for his ultimate win over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

“He beat me like a drum,” Graham said of Trump. “He ran against 17 Republicans and crushed us all. He ran against the Clinton machine and won.”

Trump made waves over the weekend when he referred to himself as “a very stable genius” on his Twitter account.

“Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames,” Trump tweeted.

“I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star………to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!”

The president’s remark came after the author of a new book about the Trump White House said in an interview that “100 percent of the people around” the president question “his intelligence and fitness for office.”
