Iran’s parliament chanted “Death to America” after President Trump announced he would withdraw the U.S. from the multinational nuclear agreement with Tehran.
As the parliament’s session began, members chanted while burning a U.S. flag and a copy of the Iran nuclear deal, according to Reuters.
{mosads}The speaker for Iran’s parliament, Ali Larijani, also said on a live state television broadcast that Trump “does not have the mental capacity to deal with issues” and called Trump’s move a “diplomatic show,” the news outlet reported.
While Larijani said Iran no longer has any reason to abide by the terms of the agreement, Reuters reported that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran would remain committed to the deal without U.S. involvement and could attain what it seeks from the European partners.
Trump’s Tuesday decision rattled European allies who signed the accord with the U.S. in 2015. It waived sanctions against Iran in exchange for curbs to its nuclear program.
