Bush to be laid to rest in socks honoring ‘lifetime of service’
Former President George H.W. Bush will be laid to rest in socks reflecting his military service during World War II, his family spokesman said Monday.
Jim McGrath shared an image of the socks that Bush will “be carried to his final rest” in, which show military planes in formation.
“The 41st President will be carried to his final rest wearing socks that pay tribute to his lifetime of service, starting as an 18 year-old naval aviator in war,” McGrath wrote on Twitter.

The former president regularly wore festive socks that carried additional meaning. During the funeral for former first lady Barbara Bush earlier this year, he wore socks that recognized his wife’s commitment to literacy programs.
{mosads}During a meeting with former President Clinton in June, he wore socks that featured the 42nd president’s likeness.
Bush died at his home in Houston on Friday. He was 94.
The 41st president’s body was set to be flown from Houston to Washington, D.C., on Monday afternoon. Bush will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda from Monday evening through Wednesday morning.
President Trump declared a national day of mourning for Wednesday, when a service will be held for Bush at the National Cathedral in Washington.
Bush’s remains will then be transported back to Houston for a funeral service there. He will be buried next to his wife and his daughter Robin at his presidential library and museum at Texas A&M University.
