Former Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie said Tuesday it’s “humbling” to be mentioned as a potential candidate for White House chief of staff, and appeared open to the job if it were offered to him.

Bossie spoke with “Fox & Friends,” one of President Trump’s favorite morning shows, and addressed reports that he’s being considered as a replacement for chief of staff John Kelly, who’s slated to leave the administration by the end of the year.

“It’s a humbling thing to even be on a list,” Bossie said. “Whether people take that list seriously or whether that’s actually a serious list of people the president’s considering, I have no idea.”

{mosads}Bossie, a Fox News contributor, said he knew Trump before his presidential candidacy, and believes he understands the president’s base.

“I do feel I understand the movement that elected him,” Bossie said.

The former campaign aide said he’s having lunch Friday with Trump and former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

Asked by “Fox & Friends” host Brian Kilmeade what he would say if Trump asked him Friday to be chief of staff, Bossie said he didn’t foresee that happening.

“But look, this president deserves somebody who’s going to be totally committed to the future of what this next two years of his presidency is about,” Bossie said.

He argued that the right candidate will be able to help Trump with his 2020 reelection campaign and be able to handle a potential onslaught of investigations by House Democrats.

Bossie and Lewandowski co-authored a recently published book titled “Trump’s Enemies,” which alleges individuals within the Trump administration and the Department of Justice are working to subvert the president’s agenda.

Trump on Saturday said Kelly would depart his post at the end of the month, kicking off the search for the president’s third chief of staff in less than two years.

Multiple reports in the last 24 hours have said Bossie is being considered for the position after Nick Ayers, the presumptive favorite to replace Kelly, said he would not be taking the post.
