FBI agent will avoid jail time after pleading guilty to shooting man in nightclub accidentally

An FBI agent pleaded guilty on Friday to third-degree assault in connection to a June incident in which he accidentally shot a man while doing a backflip at a Denver nightclub.

NBC News reported that Chase Bishop, 30, reached a plea deal with prosecutors in the case. Bishop was sentenced to two years of probation and must pay more than $1,600 in court costs and fines, but will avoid jail time.

“My whole goal in life is to care, protect and serve people,” Bishop said in court Friday. “I never expected the result of my actions to lead to something like this.”

{mosads}In a video of the incident that went viral, Bishop’s gun falls to the ground after he does a backflip on the dance floor. As Bishop, who was off-duty at the time, reaches for his weapon, it discharges, hitting another person in the leg.

Bishop is then seen tucking the weapon into his waistband, raising his hands and backing away from the crowd.

Tom Reddington, who was shot in the leg when Bishop’s gun went off, said in court Friday that he has gone through physical therapy and counseling, and that he’s worried he may not be able to run again.

However, he said he does not hold a personal grudge against Bishop, according to NBC.
