Elieen Gu, an American-born skier representing China in the Beijing Olympics, won gold in the women’s ski halfpipe final Thursday night, The Associated Press reported.
Gu, 18, posted a score of 93.25 in her first run and a score of 95.25 in her second run to secure her first-place finish.
Canada’s Cassie Sharpe, the defending Olympic champion in the event, finished in second place and her teammate Rachael Karker finished in third, according to the AP.
Team USA’s skier Hanna Faulhaber finished in sixth place in the competition, the highest finish for an American competitor, per the wire service.
Gu previously earned a gold medal in the big air event and a silver medal in the slopestyle event at the 2022 games. With her first-place finish in the halfpipe event, she has become the first action-sports athlete to win three medals at the same Winter Olympics, the AP reported.
