Even though President Obama’s advisers are loath to “nationalize” the banks, it appears as if the government has no choice but to invest billions in them, writes Josh Marshall. The question is whether the government will be managing them or if it will allow the current executives and shareholders to stay in place, Marshall adds. Hill Republicans’ total opposition to the stimulus makes clear that the package belongs to the Democrats, but that’s not a bad thing considering polls showing that Americans approve of the package and Democrats but don’t approve of Republicans, writes Marshall.
