Barack Obama has made gains in North Carolina and Florida in the latest Public Policy Polling surveys largely because of voter disappointment with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican veep nominee, writes Todd Beeton. If Democrats pass a bailout plan without much Republican support, that would give them ownership of the unpopular measure, writes Jerome Armstrong, who fears that the solution will be to pass the bill with bipartisan support and end up with a Democratic-controlled government that can only raise taxes and cut spending.
