The Caucus
The Times’ reporters have two dispatches on Sunday night’s Democratic forum on faith. Michael Luo writes that the event shows just how far the party has come since 2004, when its nominee, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), was “distinctly uncomfortable” with talking about his Catholicism. Kate Phillips recaps the forum, leading with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s responses to questions about Obama’s “bitter” remark. Clinton said that Obama’s comments “seem elitist, out of touch, and, frankly, patronizing,” while Obama said that he wasn’t trying to demean religion, which is something that he himself has embraced.
