While pundits are slamming John McCain for suggesting that Barack Obama would rather lose the Iraq war than lose an election, the facts show that Obama has chosen to “pursue defeat” by opposing the surge and calling for a withdrawal without making much mention of victory, writes Dan McLaughlin. While Obama backers are pointing to statements of support from Iraqi leaders for his troop withdrawal timetable, Gen. David Petraeus and Sunni officials in Anbar opposed a timeline and Iraqi government leaders called for a withdrawal schedule that’s several months slower, notes Pejman Yousefzadeh.
