Hillary Clinton’s warm interview with Bill O’Reilly makes sense while John McCain’s health care ads and White House’s explanation of the Pentagon’s coordinated public relations push do not, according to The New Republic’s bloggers. O’Reilly has developed a “weird empathy” for Clinton, as both of them believe they’ve been persecuted by the media, writes Isaac Chotiner. That, plus the Clinton campaign’s belief that Fox News has covered its candidate fairly, may explain why O’Reilly has spoken respectfully of the New York senator in recent months, Chotiner adds.
