The bloggers at The New Republic step back and take a broad look at the U.S. electorate. Jonathan Cohn has mixed feelings toward results of the latest New York Times-CBS poll. He notes that the level of pessimism, which is mostly due to economic worries, hasn’t been seen since January 1992, when the country was deep in a recession. But level of respondents the level of respondents open to a “bigger government providing more services” has increased, something that’s encouraging for self-described liberal Cohn. Dayo Olopade finds much insight in a German writer’s assessment that America’s two-party system forces voters into contradictions.
