Poll: Swing state voters want Senate hearing on Supreme Court nominee
Voters in swing states want to see President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Merrick Garland get a hearing, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.
{mosads}Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has long maintained the filling of the vacancy should be left to the next president, but the poll shows the majority of voters in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania disagree.
In Florida, 54 percent of voters said the Senate should consider Garland before 2017 while 40 percent said it should not and 6 percent were not sure.
That compares to the 56-38 percent of voters who want to see the nomination move forward in Ohio and the 58-37 percent of voters in Pennsylvania.
The poll was conducted from April 27-May 8 among 1,051 voters in Florida, 1,042 in Ohio and 1,077 voters in Pennsylvania with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
