Parkland survivor rips Trump over Broward County tweets

Parkland, Fla., shooting survivor David Hogg ripped President Trump on Saturday for his tweets suggesting voter fraud took place in Florida’s historically Democratic Broward County, which includes the city of Parkland, amid the Senate and gubernatorial races.

“Crazy that Trump is talking more about Broward County now than when 17 people were shot and killed here,” tweeted Hogg, a vocal critic of Trump who has called for new gun measures in the wake of the February mass shooting at his Florida high school.

Trump sent a series of tweets this week suggesting foul play regarding Broward County’s vote counting as both the Senate and gubernatorial races in Florida appear headed toward recounts.{mosads}

“Rick Scott was up by 50,000+ votes on Election Day, now they ‘found’ many votes and he is only up 15,000 votes. ‘The Broward Effect.’ How come they never find Republican votes?” Trump tweeted Friday.

“If you look at Broward County, they have had a horrible history,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday, adding, “Bad things are going on in Broward Country, really bad things.”

While Trump has repeatedly mentioned Broward County this week, he also talked at length about the shooting in the area in February, including mentioning it in tweets and remarks at the White House focused on curbing school violence.

Hogg has knocked Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) and praised his Democratic opponent Sen. Bill Nelson amid their race, and has lauded Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum (D) in his gubernatorial campaign against former Rep. Ron DeSantis (R).

Both races appear to be headed to a legally obligated recount after margins in each contest fell below 0.5 percent.

While Scott appeared to be victorious over Nelson on Election Day, the Republican’s lead has narrowed to 0.18 percentage points as votes, mostly from Broward and Palm Beach counties, come in.

Florida’s gubernatorial race is seeing similar tightening in its margin, dwindling down to 0.44 points as of Thursday night.
