Alyssa Milano touts Biden’s support for ERA

Alyssa Milano touted former Vice President Joe Biden’s support for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in a campaign email late Wednesday.

“Congress held a hearing on the ERA yesterday — the first in 36 years,” Milano wrote. “That’s why I’m writing today, on behalf of my friend Joe Biden, to ask you to sign your name with Joe and me to show your support for the ERA.”

{mosads}Milano, a key figure in the “Me Too” movement, highlighted Biden as a “leader in the fight” for the ERA and for spearheading the Violence Against Women Act in the early 1990s.

“Joe and I are working hard to make sure this issue stays front and center. Getting the word out is the first step,” she wrote.

The ERA, first introduced in 1923, seeks to ensure that women and men have equal rights under the law.

Most 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Cory Booker (N.J.), have co-sponsored ERA legislation.

When several women accused Biden of inappropriately touching them, Milano came to the defense of the 2020 presidential candidate.

“I am proud to call Joe Biden a friend,” she said in a series of tweets. “He has been a leader and a champion on fighting violence against women for many years, and I have been fortunate to accompany him to events with survivors where he has listened to their stories, empathized with them, and comforted them.”
