The White House told Newsweek of Michelle Obama that running for higher office is “not who she is.”
The first lady has also denied any interest in a career in politics.
“Absolutely not,” she said earlier this year when asked if she would ever run for president. “I think one of the things you learn about yourself as you get older are what are your strengths and what are your interests. And for me it’s other stuff that is not being the president.”
But Michelle Obama, much like retiring Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, might not escape speculation so easily.
Rep. James Clyburn (R-S.C.) also told Newsweek that he would “love” to see Obama get more into politics.
“It would be a breath of fresh air in D.C.,” he said. “She’s honest and straightforward, which is not what you see in Washington much. She is exactly what we need around here.”
