Michelle Obama credits Let’s Move with declining childhood obesity rates
“We’ve really changed the conversation in this country. When we started, there were a lot of people in this country who would have never thought that childhood obesity was a health crisis. But now we’re starting to see some movement on this issue,” she said in an interview.
“Our kids are eating better at school. They’re moving more. And we’re starting … to see a change in the trends. We’re starting to see rates of obesity coming down like never before.”
The White House also announced that the social media site Pinterest, along with Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines, Meredith, Food Network and Time Inc., will make it easier for people to find healthier recipes on their websites.
The recipes meet the United States Agriculture Department’s MyPlate guidelines for healthy eating.
“As a mom, I know how challenging it can be to think of new meal ideas that your kids will like and that will be good for them,” Obama said in a statement.
“This partnership takes the guess work out of finding healthier recipes and gives parents the information and the tools they need to make healthy choices for their families every day.”
Obama will also appear on the “Dr. Oz Show” on Thursday to talk about healthy eating. Her tour begins Wednesday and includes stops in Mississippi, Missouri and her hometown of Chicago.
