Fla. gov: Walker will ‘stand strong’
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) won’t let up his quest to pass legislation that would roll back collective bargaining rights for public unions, Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) said.
“I talk to Scott Walker in Wisconsin every so often, every couple weeks, and he’s going to stand strong with what he’s trying to do up there,” Scott said Saturday night according to The Palm Beach Post. “Scott’s a good guy. He’s going to stand strong. Hopefully his senate will stand strong.”
{mosads}As of late Scott and Walker have been two of the most common Republican names in news headlines. Scott recently rejected federal stimulus money to build a high speed rail system in Florida and Walker for the employee union bill, which has earned him the ire of pro-union groups and prominent Democrats.
Fourteen Democrats in Wisconsin’s legislature fled the state, obstructing the possibility the bill’s passage. The Democrats have not returned despite Walker saying their absence means they are failing to fulfill their duties as elected representatives. Walker has said he does not plan to back down from passing the bill.
On Saturday a Tea Party Express e-mail soliciting donations said that Walker was “losing ground” against protestors and pro-labor advocates hoping to block the bill’s passage.
A recent Rasmaussen Poll found that disapproval of Walker’s job performance is at nearly 60 percent of Wisconsinites.
