Mass. Gov Patrick says he got ‘quite drunk’ after Tsarnaev capture
{mosads}On April 20, Patrick went to the Berkshires and stopped by a local restaurant for dinner.
“And I sat in the corner and Maggie, who runs the [restaurant], asked ‘Do you want to be near people or away from people?’ ” Patrick recounted, according to The Boston Herald. “I said, ‘As far away as I can.’ So she put in the corner, me and my book on my iPad, and she starts bringing me things. Some of them edible. In fact all the food was edible. She starts bringing me things to drink as a celebration. And by the end of the meal, I was actually quite drunk, by myself.”
Days earlier authorities killed Tamerlan Tsarnaev during a multi-day manhunt following bombings at the Boston Marathon. Tamerlan and Dzhkokhar Tsarnaev, brothers, were the primary suspects in connection to the bombing. Law enforcement was able to capture Dzhokhar on April 19.
The co-owner of the restaurant, Rouge in West Stockbridge, told The Herald that Patrick was not noticeably drunk.
“He wasn’t tipsy,” Rouge co-owner Maggie Merelle said. “I never would have known.”
Merelle said the Massachusetts governor had “a glass of chardonnay or two” with his dinner.
In the same interview, Patrick also said that the Massachusetts government would have gotten more criticism for how the manhunt was handled if the Tsarnaev brothers weren’t captured. The area where the Tsarnaev brothers were being pursued was locked down just before Dzhokhar was captured.
“Look, the reason why it worked out in the end is because we found him,” Patrick said. “If we didn’t find him then people would be bitching and moaning about how we kept them indoors all day.”
