Man charged with threatening Lieberman
A Philadelphia man arrested and charged with threatening to shoot Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is set to be released Wednesday.
Dmitry Dyatlov, 23, a Philadelphia-area resident and prolific blogger, was arrested Aug. 2 and charged Aug. 3. Dyatlov allegedly wrote a post, dated Aug. 1 on his blog “Competitive Collaboration,” suggesting Lieberman should be shot.
{mosads}“[T]here is, at least, one Jew, who we absolutely must shoot in the face (many times), ASAP: Joe Lieberman,” the blog post reads.
Reports say Dyatlov’s employer reported him missing this summer, and the investigation turned up Dyatlov’s blog.
On Tuesday, bail was set at $50,000, but Dyatlov will remain in custody until authorities set up a system to monitor his computer electronically, according to a report by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The blog post gives three reasons for the author’s dislike of Lieberman: That he is liberal, “doesn’t like Marilyn Manson (or Eminem)” and holds a position on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Lieberman is chairman of the committee.
The post also urges readers, “dont do it just cuz I said it (do it because it’s the right thing to do, right now),” presumably referring to shooting Lieberman.
According to MSNBC, Dyatlov told FBI agents he did not intend to carry out the threat directly.
“In order to fix the system you sometimes need to break the system,” he said, according to the report.
Dyatlov is a naturalized citizen originally from Uzbekistan. He graduated from the University of Michigan and works as an analyst at the information technology firm Accenture Consulting.
Lieberman’s office declined to comment on the reports.
