Gingrich on Cain allegations: ‘He has to have an answer and it better be accurate’
{mosads}Gingrich has previously backed Cain against the allegations, calling him a “friend” and saying he was the target of an “elite news media” that’s obsessed with “gossip.”
But speaking Tuesday on ABC’s “Newsmakers,” the former Speaker of the House said the situation has changed now that the allegations are no longer from anonymous sources.
On Monday, Sharon Bialek held a news conference to discuss an incident in which she says Cain groped her. Cain denied the charges and his campaign has responded by attacking Bialek’s credibility, but Gingrich says it’s time for the candidate to do more.
“He has to explain the charges and do so in a way that’s convincing,” Gingrich said. “He owes her that and he owes the American people that.”
