Joan Mondale dies at 83

Former second lady Joan Mondale has died at 83, according to multiple reports.

Mondale was the wife of former Vice President Walter Mondale. She entered end-of-life hospice care on Friday.

{mosads}“We are grateful for the expressions of love and support we have received. Joan was greatly loved by many. We will miss her dearly,” Walter Mondale said in a statement, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune

She had been living in Minneapolis. Her husband, Walter, now 86, was vice president to former President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981.  

The former second lady was a major proponent for culture and arts, and earned the nickname “Joan of Art.”
