Grayson’s wife drops restraining order
The estranged wife of Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) dropped a temporary restraining order against the congressman on Wednesday.
“Ms. Carson-Grayson has apparently dropped the petition for injunction that she levied against the Congressman last week, and will no longer pursue a restraining order against him. Ms. Carson-Grayson’s complaint was voluntarily dismissed today,” Lauren Doney, a spokesman for the congressman said in a statement.
{mosads}Last week, Grayson denied pushing Lolita Carson-Grayson after a judge granted a temporary protective injunction against him at the time. The two filed for divorce in January.
“While this is certainly positive news, we want to emphasize that these baseless charges should never have been brought in the first place,” Doney said.
“Two eyewitness accounts, video evidence, a thorough police investigation, and Ms. Carson-Grayson’s own 911 call confirmed the Congressman’s innocence — and that Ms. Carson-Grayson was, in fact, the aggressor,” Doney said.
Grayson’s wife and her lawyer filed the paperwork in a Florida court on Wednesday, which voluntarily dismissed the injunction “for protection against domestic violence,” according to a document provided by Grayson’s office.
His office said the filing hopefully put to bed any of his estranged wife’s “efforts to misrepresent and exploit the family’s private affairs.”
“As many Americans know, dealing with the intensely personal and emotional matter of divorce is challenging enough — the added pressure of trying to protect your family’s privacy, while being forced to defend yourself from false accusations as awful as these ones, has made for an emotional and stressful time for all members of the Grayson family.”
Last Tuesday, Grayson’s wife accused him of pushing her against a door and injuring her during an incident at the former couple’s home.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office last week said it would not charge Grayson for the incident because there was not probable cause to support the allegations. Grayson has repeatedly denied the charges.
