Redskins owner Dan Snyder on Saturday expressed support for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as he faces backlash over how he handled the Ray Rice domestic violence case.

Snyder said Goodell “has always had the best interests of football at heart,” and “we are fortunate to have him,” according to the Associated Press

{mosads}In recent days, Goodell has come under fire after a video surfaced showing Rice, the former Baltimore Ravens running back, punching his then-fiancee earlier this year.

Goodell said he was unaware of the video, but an AP report quoted a law enforcement official that suggested otherwise.

Some lawmakers on Capitol Hill have said Goodell should resign if he lied. Some have also expressed support for former secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to take over his position.

Snyder, himself, has also faced pressure to change the name of his football team.

The Baltimore Ravens terminated Rice’s contract this week after the new video went viral. He was initially suspended for two games.

Rice attended a football game Saturday at his high school in a New York City suburb, his first public appearance since being released from the Ravens. He was spotted with his wife, Janay and infant daughter.
