Washington gears up for march against police violence

Thousands of demonstrators are expected to converge on the Capitol Saturday to protest the police killings of unarmed black men.

Civil rights activists will march on Washington with the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, as they call for congressional hearings into the controversial deaths in Ferguson, Mo., and New York this summer.

{mosads}The lack of indictments from grand juries in the cases have sparked nationwide protests, some violent, in the midst of high racial tension.

Hoping to spur legislation regarding police misconduct, the Al Sharpton-led march will take place between the White House and the Capitol, shutting down parts of Pennsylvania Avenue and nearby streets.

The movement comes as the Senate holds votes Saturday on the $1.1 trillion “cromnibus” spending bill to fund the government through September and avoid a government shutdown.
