Biden pays tribute to gun-control advocate Sarah Brady

Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday paid tribute to longtime gun-control advocate Sarah Brady, who died Friday

The 73-year-old Brady fought for stricter gun laws in the more than 30 years after her late husband James was shot during a 1981 assassination attempt of President Ronald Reagan.

Biden said he spoke with Sarah Brady last fall at the memorial for her husband.

{mosads}“It was evident that the grace, dignity and determination that characterized them both was as strong as ever — as was the love they shared,” Biden said in a statement.

“I don’t remember ever seeing them apart after the assassination attempt that took Jim’s mobility but not his drive,” Biden said.

He said the Bradys worked as a team canvassing Capitol Hill to make their case for tightening the nation’s gun laws.

“Sarah wasn’t just by Jim’s side as his caretaker and lifelong love — she was a force unto herself, determined to make America a safer place for her children and ours,” he said.

“They forged, through painstaking effort, a bipartisan consensus for simple common sense. And they saved lives. Countless lives.”

Former White House Press Secretary James Brady died in August

“Sarah and Jim’s legacy will live on in the laws they passed together, the organization they built together, the lives they saved together, and the family they raised together,” Biden said.
