Jindal: ‘We will beat Hillary Clinton’
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal predicted Saturday the GOP would defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
“We will beat Hillary Clinton and win this election,” Jindal said at the South Carolina Freedom Summit in Greenville.
“We must win this election.”
{mosads}Jindal, a possible 2016 presidential candidate, said triumph for his party was crucial given Clinton’s stance on religious liberty.
“My religious beliefs are not between me and Hillary Clinton,” he said.
“My religious beliefs are between me and God, and I’m not changing them no matter how uncomfortable they make Secretary Clinton, President Obama or anyone else on the left,” Jindal said.
Jindal specifically mentioned Clinton’s comments late last month that “deep-seated beliefs” on abortion must change. He added such sentiments were common among liberals.
“I am sick and tired of the left,” Jindal said.
“They tell us they are tolerant and that they respect differences of opinion,” he said. “They tolerate everybody but those who have the temerity to disagree with them.”
The Louisiana governor said the Obama administration had begun a prolonged campaign against faith-based policies over its two terms in office. He said that this process could not continue once 2016 hit.
“Never did I think I would see the day my government would try to take away my religious liberty,” Jindal said.
“We shouldn’t have to choose between following our consciences and Scriptures and operating our businesses,” he added.
Jindal has not yet revealed whether he will seek the Oval Office next election cycle.
Should he run, he would join a crowded field of GOP contenders battling for the nomination.
Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), former Gov. Mike Huckabee (Ark.), former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson have all officially announced 2016 bids.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush are also strongly rumored to join the Republican race in the coming months.
