Cheney: McCain’s process for picking Palin was a ‘mistake’
{mosads}”That’s not … meant so much as a criticism of Gov. Palin as it is that I just thought it was not — the process didn’t meet the standards I would like to see our candidate pursue when they pick a — a running mate.”
In an interview with ABC aired July 29th, Cheney had said the decision to pick Palin was not “well handled” and added that he didn’t think Palin “passed the test” proving she could assume the responsibilities of the presidency.
I like Gov. Palin. I’ve met her. I know her. She – attractive candidate. But based on her background, she’d only been governor for, what, two years. I don’t think she passed that test…of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake,” Cheney had said.
In response, Palin called Cheney’s opinion a “shame.”
“Seeing as how Dick — excuse me, Vice President Cheney — never misfires, then evidently he’s quite convinced that what he had evidently read about me by the ‘lamestream’ media, having been written what I believe is a false narrative over the last four years, evidently Dick Cheney believed that stuff, and that’s a shame,” Palin said in an interview with Greta Van Susteren.
In the Fox interview set to air Monday, Cheney stressed that he liked Palin.
“I think she’s a very able and effective spokesman for the party, for conservative causes,” Cheney said. “She believes in a lot of the same things I believe in.”
