State of emergency declared in Ferguson
St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger issued a state of emergency in Ferguson, Mo., following an outburst of violence Sunday on the anniversary of Michael Brown’s death.
“In light of last night’s violence and unrest in the City of Ferguson, and the potential for harm to persons and property, I am exercising my authority as county executive to issue a state of emergency, effective immediately,” Stenger said in a statement released on Monday.
{mosads}Police shot Tyrone Harris Jr. Sunday night after the 18-year-old opened fire on the officers, hitting two vehicles.
Harris, who remains in critical condition, was charged with assault.
Brown’s killing by a white police officer last year set off days of rioting in the St. Louis suburb.
