Sunday shows preview: Remembering Katrina

As the nation commemorates the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, politicians will reflect on the Gulf Coast’s comeback on Sunday’s talk shows.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) will appear on ABC and CBS to discuss the devastation his state faced after the storm hit in August 2005. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D) will also appear on CBS to discuss his city’s recovery efforts over the last decade.

{mosads}President Obama and former President George W. Bush, who received heavy criticism for his initial handling of the hurricane’s aftermath, both marked the anniversary in New Orleans during separate events this week. An official ceremony is scheduled for Saturday night, featuring former President Bill Clinton.

The 2016 presidential race will also take center stage Sunday, with GOP candidates who are current governors appearing on the program. Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, Chris Christie of New Jersey and Jindal will represent the GOP, with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) the lone candidate representing the Democratic field.

GOP front-runner Donald Trump, who has appeared on the shows over the last few weeks, is not scheduled for any interviews.

NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Host Chuck Todd will interview Walker in studio to talk about foreign policy on the heels of the presidential candidate laying out his foreign policy blueprint to take on terrorism the speech at The Citadel on Friday. 

ABC’s “This Week”: Sanders, who’s running for the Democratic ticket, will be on the program to talk about his push to catch up with Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton. Jindal and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), who’s promoting her new book, will also be interviewed.

CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Jindal will also appear in an interview on CBS, which is expected to touch on Hurricane Katrina and efforts to rebuild Louisiana 10 years after the storm made landfall. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, brother of former Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), will also be on the program to discuss the recovery and the city’s rebirth.

“Fox News Sunday”: Christie will be on the program to discuss his strategy to remain in the top 10 ahead of the next GOP presidential debate, airing on CNN on Sept. 16.

CNN’s “State of the Union”: Sanders will also appear in an interview on CNN, as well as Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), who will touch on lawmakers’ return to Capitol Hill after Labor Day and the congressional agenda this fall.
