Former Obama adviser David Axelrod mocked a story published Tuesday in The New York Times about Hillary Clinton’s “detailed plan to show more authenticity and spontaneity.”
“#Justdoit!” tweeted Axelrod, who worked on both of President Obama’s two presidential campaigns, including the 2008 primary that pitted Obama against Clinton.
{mosads}The quip came in reference to a Times article about the Democratic presidential candidate titled, “Hillary Clinton to Show More Humor and Heart, Aides Say.”
The story reported that Clinton is scrapping the phrase “everyday Americans,” which was deemed confusing, though will still invoke her granddaughter Charlotte on the campaign trail.
Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, has faced sagging favorability numbers in recent weeks amid questions over a private email server she used while secretary of State.
She is also facing a surge from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a rival in the Democratic race, and Vice President Biden is publicly mulling a challenge.
“The true game changer is when there’s a personified opponent,” communications director Jennifer Palmieri told the Times, discussing Clinton contrasting herself with Republicans.
