Clinton Foundation President Donna Shalala suffered a stroke Tuesday following a Clinton Global Initiative event in New York.
{mosads}Shalala, 74, was with colleagues at the time of the stroke and was taken to a hospital, according to a statement from former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton, who sit on the group’s board.
“Initial reports are very encouraging,” the pair said in the statement.
Shalala was secretary of Health and Human Services during the Clinton administration. She was president of the University of Miami before leading the Clinton Foundation this year.
Bill Clinton visited Shalala on Tuesday evening after surgery, and the pair had “a good conversation,” according to The New York Times.
