Clinton spoofs McCarthy’s Benghazi gaffe

Hillary Clinton is mocking House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for suggesting the House Select Committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attack is hurting her Democratic presidential campaign.

Clinton posted a Facebook video on Wednesday lampooning the GOP lawmaker’s remarks about her 2016 run last week.

{mosads}“I get why you’re mad, I do,” an Iowan also named “Kevin McCarthy” said in the clip.

“This guy – who’s probably going to be the next Speaker of the House – just said that the committee that is supposed to be investigating Benghazi is now focusing its attention on Hillary’s emails with an eye towards her poll numbers instead,” he said.

“Instead of focusing on the American tragedy they said they would focus on, they’re spending our taxpayer dollars to play electoral politics,” the fake McCarthy added.

He than bemoans how his Twitter account is beset by negative comments from users thinking he is the House majority leader.

“I get it, it’s gross,” he said. “But it’s not my fault — it’s the House Republicans’.”

“So please, just stop tweeting,” the spoof McCarthy added. “My Twitter account just can’t handle it. Oh, and by the way — go Hillary.”

The House majority leader’s remarks last week gave Democrats ammunition for arguing that the Benghazi investigation is a partisan effort aiming at Clinton.

Republicans, meanwhile, were aggravated that the California lawmaker is distracting from their probe of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Libya.

McCarthy’s statement has raised concerns about his bid to replace Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) at month’s end.

Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) are now contesting McCarthy’s ascendancy to the speakership position.

Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), meanwhile, said on Wednesday that McCarthy had “screwed up” by linking Clinton and his committee’s work.

Gowdy and the other Benghazi Committee members now plan on questioning Clinton about her role as secretary of State during testimony scheduled for Oct. 22.
