Rahm Emanuel got into a testy exchange with Politico’s Mike Allen on Wednesday when the reporter disclosed where the Chicago mayor’s family will vacation over the holidays.

An angry Emanuel indicated that he had offered the information backstage privately, and was not amused that the reporter had highlighted it at a public event.

{mosads}“Well, first of all, thanks for telling everybody what I’m going to do with my family,” Emanuel responded. “You just had a private conversation with me, and now you decide to make that public. I really don’t appreciate that.

“I’m expressing to you now publicly my displeasure. My family’s trips are my family,” he added.

The mayor said he and his wife are going to Cuba as a part of an effort to provide their children with a diverse upbringing.

“Amy and I, as parents, make a decision every year to see other parts of the world,” he said. “It’s something my parents did with me, because I think it’s not only a great family time … where they don’t have to share me as a mayor, but they get to have me totally 100 percent as their father.

“But more importantly, they get to be exposed to other cultures, other parts of the world, and one of the things we want is for our children to know that the world has people of different faiths, different background, with different ways of living and coping with similar situations,” he added.

As Allen sought to apologize, Emanuel indicated that an apology would not be enough.

“I don’t know if you know — it’s not going to work,” Emanuel responded, interrupting Allen.

Seconds earlier, Emanuel also said his wife might be in touch with Allen and asked for the reporter’s cellphone number.

“Can you give me your cell number? Because I’d like you to listen to Amy,” he said.
