Former President Jimmy Carter reportedly announced Sunday that he was cancer-free.
Carter, who underwent treatment to address cancer that began in his liver and spread to his brain, told a Sunday school class in Georgia that he was free of the disease, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
{mosads}The paper quoted a person in attendance, who said that Carter, 91, told the group he had received a scan this week that showed no signs of the disease. The hundreds of people in attendance at the church “burst into applause,” according to that person.
Carter made his cancer diagnosis public in August, when he said it had spread to his brain and he would be immediately undergoing treatment.
He received radiation and drug treatment, and surgeons also removed several lesions and part of his liver to fight the ailment.
In November, the Carter Center released a statement saying doctors had found no new malignancy and the former president was responding well to treatment.
Carter is currently the second-oldest living former president, behind President George H.W. Bush.
