Trump spokeswoman: ‘So what? They’re Muslim’

A spokeswoman for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday sought to defend his plan to bar Muslims from entering the United States.

“So what? They’re Muslim,” Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson said during an exchange with conservative commentator S.E. Cupp on CNN’s “The Lead.”

{mosads}Pierson argued that that “there’s no constitutional requirement to allow anyone to immigrate to the United States” and Trump’s proposal “is really nothing new.”

“There really is something new to the idea of banning an entire religious group from entering the country,” Cupp countered during the segment.

Pierson argued that the U.S. has never “allowed insurgents to come across these borders.”

“No one’s talking about allowing insurgents,” Cupp responded. “You’re talking about not allowing regular Muslims, that’s what you’re talking about. No one’s talking about insurgents.”
“Yes, from Arab nations, Pierson interjected. “You know what, so what? They’re Muslim.”

Trump himself defended his proposal during a round of interviews Tuesday, amid near universal condemnation from Republicans, Democrats and leaders from other countries.
