Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Wednesday joked about his name after retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson mispronounced it in the latest GOP presidential debate.
{mosads}”Listen, from the moment I’ve been in kindergarten on, I dreaded the first day of school when a teacher would try to pronounce my name,” Priebus said smiling on CNN’s “
New Day.”
“It’s what happens when a Greek and a German get married, Chris, I mean it’s like a cultural disaster. It’s unique and I’ve learned to live with it,” he told co-host Chris Cuomo.
Carson pronounced Priebus’s name as “Pubis” when discussing a recent conversation with the chairman on stage during the fifth Republican debate Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
It came on the heels of Carson repeatedly mispronouncing the name of the Palestinian group Hamas during a
speech earlier this month when he said something closer to “hummus.”
