California declares state of emergency in San Bernardino
The state of California has declared a state of emergency in San Bernardino following the Dec. 2 terrorist attack, the governor said in a proclamation.
Gov. Jerry Brown (D) on Friday said the order is designed to “help the community as it recovers.”
{mosads}The proclamation requires the state Department of Public Health to assist the county division until it is able to resume normal functioning.
“The circumstances of this terrorist attack, by reason of its magnitude, are or are likely to be beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment and facilities of any single local government and require the combined forces of all appropriate mutual aid,” the proclamation said.
The order also offers various forms of assistance to San Bernardino County related to the shooting and suspends fees related to the disposal of remains or copies of death certificates.
Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik stormed the Inland Regional Center during a holiday party for the Department of Public Health, killing 14 and injuring 22.
The couple was later killed in a shootout with police.
During the attack, Malik reportedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in a social media post.
