Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the family featured on the television show “Duck Dynasty,” is endorsing Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for president in 2016.
“Ted Cruz is my man. I’m voting for him,” Robertson announced in a video released by Cruz’s campaign on Wednesday that shows the pair hunting for ducks while wearing facepaint.
“My qualifications for president of the United States are rather narrow: Is he or she Godly, does he or she love us, can he or she do the job and, finally, would they kill a duck and put him in a pot and make him a good duck gumbo?” Robertson said in a video. “Cruz fits the bill.”
Cruz said he was “thrilled” by the endorsement.
{mosads}“The Robertson’s are a strong family of great Christian faith and conservative values,” Cruz said, according to Fox News, which first reported the endorsement. Cruz also hailed Robertson for building his Duck Commander business.
Fox News reported that Cruz and Robertson had dinner on Sunday night and went duck hunting on Monday.
Cruz is battling for the top spot in the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 1, with polls show him in a tight fight with Donald Trump.
