Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) publicly questioned Donald Trump this week on a slew of issues, including the Republican presidential candidate’s “many affairs.”

Sasse fired off more than a dozen tweets focused on the celebrity businessman’s White House bid, praising him for having “struck a chord” among Americans and being “on a huge roll.”

{mosads}The lawmaker went so far as to congratulate Trump for likely being the “next POTUS.” However, he launched a flurry of questions focusing on Trump’s conservative credentials.

Sasse questioned Trump for wanting single-payer healthcare, noted that he previously said he did “hate the concept of guns” and asked Trump if he agreed with “Biden that higher taxes=more patriotism?”

Then the GOP lawmaker pressed further:
While Trump often boasts of his amicable professional relationships, his personal love life — including his two divorces — has not been a major focus of the presidential campaign.

The questioning comes from a GOP lawmaker who represents a state that neighbors Iowa, where Trump and Ted Cruz are locked in a tight race.

The issue of Trump’s views on marriage is now being raised as the businessman looks to shore up support among social conservatives ahead of next week’s Iowa caucuses.

On Monday, Cruz poked fun at Trump for botching a biblical reference during a speech at Liberty University earlier this month. On Tuesday, Trump unveiled an endorsement from the school’s president.
