Hillary Clinton on Trump: We were never friends

Hillary Clinton says she’s never been friends with Donald Trump, despite their close relations in the past.

“We were not friends,” Clinton, a former New York senator, told People magazine for a story published Wednesday. “We knew each other, obviously, in New York. I knew a lot of people.”

{mosads}Bill and Hillary Clinton attended Trump’s 2005 wedding in Palm Beach, Fla., and photos have circulated online of Bill golfing with the Republican presidential contender.

Several Republicans have prodded Trump for his closeness to the Clintons, pointing to their attendance at his wedding and his donations to the Clinton Foundation.

Their daughters, Ivanka Trump and Chelsea Clinton, have remained close during the campaign, with Chelsea telling People in an interview before the Iowa caucuses that “friendship” overcomes politics.

Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, said during the interview she was “concerned” about the tone of the presidential race, singling out Trump’s divisive comments about minorities.

Trump has unloaded on Clinton during the presidential race, accusing her last month of being an “enabler” of her husband’s past infidelity.

But he has previously praised the former secretary of State, telling Fox News in 2012 that he thought she was “a terrific woman.”

“I am biased because I have known her for years. I live in New York. She lives in New York. I really like her and her husband both a lot,” he said.
