Former Dem senator: Hillary email server a ‘big mistake’
Former Democratic Sen. Bob Kerrey (Neb.) said in an interview broadcast Sunday that Democratic primary front-runner Hillary Clinton’s decision to use a private email server while secretary of State was a “big mistake.”
{mosads}“It was a very bad decision to set up the server — that was a big mistake,” Kerrey told radio host John Catsimatidis.
Kerrey also said that there is an overclassification problem within the intelligence community that makes it difficult to know what information is and isn’t sensitive.
He said the incident demonstrates that Congress needs to update the Administrative Procedure Act, which he said makes it too difficult for civil servants to carry out their duty.
“What it demonstrates is the need to change the Administrative Procedure Act … established in 1967, before we had all the modern electronic communication systems,” he said. “We’ve got to make it easier for government to function.”
“What the Administrative Procedure Act does is it makes it more difficult,” he added. “And if Congress thinks that’s not true, all they gotta do is ask themselves, put them in the same mix, give us the opportunity to [request their communications through the Freedom of Information Act] and see how they like it.”
