Redskins player: I’m ‘off the Trump bandwagon’

A Washington Redskins linebacker says he is no longer supporting Donald Trump after the Republican presidential front-runner failed to show “an ounce of leadership or any quality character.”

Will Compton tweeted Tuesday night, as a series of states held primaries and caucuses, that he was “officially off the Trump bandwagon,” writing that he “drank the Kool-Aid” for a short period.

He said he had been ignorant and focused only on an alternative to Democrats and didn’t research the candidate.

Compton did not immediately indicate whom he’d support but insisted it would not be a Democrat.

Compton’s teammate, Redskins defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, also sent a series of tweets critical of Trump on Tuesday:

{mosads}Other members of the Redskins franchise have also gotten involved in the 2016 election.

Team owner Dan Snyder was a backer of Jeb Bush before the former Florida governor dropped out last month. He had donated $100,000 last year to a pro-Bush super-PAC.

Snyder’s wife Tanya donated $534.86 to Trump’s campaign in September, according to Federal Election Commission filings reported by The Washington City Paper.

Trump won seven states on Tuesday night, giving him a total of 10 wins in the first 15 nominating contests.
