Marco Rubio said Friday morning that his GOP presidential rival Donald Trump was the “most vulgar” White House candidate in history after the businessman appeared to reference his genitals during a televised debate.
“I think it’s par for the course in this very unusual election,” the Florida senator said of the fireworks-laden GOP debate the previous night while speaking on CNN’s “New Day.”
{mosads}”I go into these debates, and I hope every question is a policy question. It hasn’t been that way because Donald Trump has been perhaps the most vulgar — no, I don’t think perhaps — the most vulgar person ever to aspire to the presidency,” Rubio said.
“It is what it is,” Rubio said, maintaining he preferred a more substantive policy debate.
Trump directly addressed Rubio’s joke about his “small hands” from the campaign trail when the two faced off in the latest GOP debate Thursday night in Detroit.
Trump raised his hands, arguing there wasn’t anything small about them, before jabbing back at Rubio, “Look at those hands, are they small hands?”
“He referred to my hands — if they are small, something else must be small. I guarantee you, there’s no problem,” Trump added, provoking laughs in the audience. The remark caused a firestorm on social media.
The pair exchanged other shots throughout the debate, including Trump referring to Rubio as “Little Marco.” Rubio joined Ted Cruz in going after Trump’s business record in an effort to derail the GOP front-runner.
