Sanders to appear on Fox News special next week
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will participate in an hourlong Fox News special on the eve of the Michigan primary next week.
Fox host Bret Baier announced Thursday evening that Sanders had agreed to the town hall-style broadcast Monday night, according to The New York Times.
{mosads}Hillary Clinton’s campaign was invited for the 6 p.m. event but “is unable to attend due to a conflict in her campaign schedule,” according to a release from the network.
Fox News has only hosted Republican debates this cycle, while Democratic debates have been broadcast on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS. Democrats have also held town hall-style forums on CNN and MSNBC.
Fox host Chris Wallace, who anchors “Fox News Sunday,” called out members of Clinton’s team last month, saying they hadn’t responded to multiple requests to schedule an appearance on his show.
The next day, both campaign officials returned emails from the show to discuss arranging an interview with Clinton in March, Wallace said during his show this past weekend.
Baier last month asked Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz whether Fox would be considered for any upcoming Democratic debates, prompting her to laugh.
“I’m really happy to be here with you on your network,” Wasserman Schultz said on Baier’s program. “There aren’t a whole lot of Democrats who come on. I always look forward to our conversations, Bret, and look forward to sparring with you and some of your hosts all the way through the campaign.”
The next debate is Sunday on CNN.
