Trump uses teleprompter in foreign policy speech
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump appeared to use a teleprompter during a foreign policy speech Monday night before a pro-Israel audience.
Trump, who is known for his freewheeling approach to interviews and press conferences, garnered attention on social media for speaking in front of the device after being an outspoken critic of the tactic.
{mosads}Shortly before he took to the stage at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s (AIPAC) annual policy conference, Trump criticized his Democratic rival for using a teleprompter.
“I mean here’s a women, it’s [all] talk. She’s just reading it off a teleprompter. Believe me, they write that for her,” Trump said of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s barbs during an interview on CNN’s “Situation Room.”
Trump was responding to the former secretary of State’s speech at AIPAC earlier in the day, where she slammed his foreign policy proposals, including banning Muslims from entering the United States.
The businessman has been critical of teleprompters, saying back in August, “If you’re running for president you shouldn’t be allowed to use teleprompters.”
During his speech Monday evening, Trump at times spoke more slowly than usual and with longer pauses between certain phrases, glancing between teleprompters.
He largely stuck to his prepared remarks, which were sent to reporters as he began his speech.
